BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Della Miller Runner, 88, of Bowling Green, KY passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Della was born June 19, 1924, in Breathitt County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Susie Russell Miller; her two husbands, Meredith Hildreth and Harry Wayne Runner; her son, Meredith Hildreth; and five brothers, Hiram, David, Solomon, Harley and Pryce Miller.
Della was a retired school teacher from Bowling Green City Schools, having taught many years at Potter-Gray Elementary. Before teaching in the city schools, she taught at Bristow School and Warren County School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Jubilee Singers and was active in her Sunday school class. She loved traveling, having seen many other countries in her lifetime. She led senior swimming pool excises at the Olympic Fitness Center. She was a docent at the KY Building at Western KY University and volunteered at the American Red Cross.
Survivors include a son, John M. Hildreth (JoNelle) of Bowling Green; a daughter, Diana Edwards of Bowling Green; three sisters, Osma Costello of Darlington, S.C., Virginia Hudson of Corydon, Ind., and Vianna Norman (Charlie) of Cox Creek; four grandchildren, Justin Edwards, John Hildreth II, Jeffery Hildreth and Jason Hildreth; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with visitation from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
