James F. Leek, 81, of Bowling Green, KY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - James F. Leek, 81, of Bowling Green, KY passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. Mr. Leek was born August 19, 1931 in Nashville, TN, a son of the late James F. and Gladys Leek Bush. Mr. Leek was preceded in death by his wife, Doris J. Leek, a daughter, Helen Dolores Dion, a grandson, Travis Leek, a sister, Mary Roach, one brother-in-law, David Cassetty.

Mr. Leek entered the U.S. Army in June 1947 and served until October 1951. He served with the 187 Airborne in the Korean War. After his military service, Mr. Leek went to school on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1958. He was employed by NASA at the Kennedy Space Center where he was Project Manager of Electrical on the Titan II and Titan IIIC programs until 1967. After leaving NASA, Mr. Leek started his own electrical contraction company in Orlando, FL. He sold his company in 1974 and was then employed by Pan American Electrical as Project Manager. Mr. Leek retired in 1996 and moved to Bowling Green.

Mr. Leek was a KY Colonel, Life Member of V.F.W. Post 8422 and D.A.V. Post 43 of Smyrna, TN, as well as a member of American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green. He attended the Citizen Police Academy in Bowling Green and worked as a volunteer with the BGPD. Mr. Leek was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Mr. Leek is survived by his sons, Micheal Leek and his wife, Tana, and Timothy Leek and his wife, Robin all of Bowling Green and Richard Leek and his wife, Becky of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Stacy Dion Rich and her husband, Rich of Nashville, TN; one brother, Donald Bush of Bowling Green; three sisters, Ann Stubblefield and her husband, Don, Carolyn Cassetty, Brenda Shores and her husband, Tommy all of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren; a special friend, Barbara York of Bowling Green; a brother-in-law, Chuck Roach of Franklin, KY.

Memorial Services are scheduled at 1:00 pm Friday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 am -1:00 pm Friday, April 12, 2013, at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Additional Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Southside Baptist Church.
