BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Monica Jerline Swetmon, 93, of Bowling Green, KY passed away May 5, 2013 at the Medical Center.
The Bowling Green native was born February 7, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Winna Richards and Lockwood Richards, Sr. Although she worked at the Derby in her younger days, she spent the majority of her life in the Hadley community as a cattle farmer. She received great enjoyment from reading the Bible, gardening, walking, and her grandchildren. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby V. Swetmon, her son, Bill Swetmon, her granddaughter, Melanie Swetmon, her brothers, Moorman and Lockwood Richards, and her sisters Ruby Crick and Jean Andrews.
Mrs. Swetmon is survived by one son, E. David Swetmon, Sr. and his wife Lynne of Bowling Green. One sister, Jo Nell Wall and her husband, Gunter, of Louisville, KY. Four grandchildren, David Jr., Michelle, and Shelby Lockwood Swetmon of Bowling Green and Jennifer McAloon of Texas and three great grandchildren. Also, one daughter-in-law, Pam Swetmon, of Texas.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel and beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Hall’s Chapel Cemetery on Barren River Road. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society to help in the fight against cancer which took her son, Bill Swetmon.
