BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Sarah Naomi (Blackie) Wingfield, 91 of Bowling Green passed away at Hospice of Southern KY on Thursday, June 6, 2013.
The Edmonson County native was a daughter of the late William Arthur and Addie Houchins Bryant and wife of the late Edward Wingfield. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Wallace, a son Jimmy Wingfield and daughter-in-law, Jean Spillman and five brothers and two sisters.
Naomi was a member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, a KY Colonel and along the way she found the energy to make a trip to the Holy Land accompanied by her daughter, an experience she spoke of often with awe. Naomi played professional softball for the PVSW Ramblers in Phoenix, AZ . She was retired from the State of KY as a social worker and other various positions with the Department for Social Services including supervising a ten county BRADD area in Southern KY. After her retirement she began a new career in farming, growing tobacco and raising beef cattle. She was awarded Master Conversationist of the Year in KY and dedicated fifteen years to the field of agriculture.
Survivors include a son David Spillman (Elizabeth); daughter, Elaine Bryant Priest (Steve) both of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren, Stacey Blythe, Leah Ashwill, Andrew Ashwill, Heather Spillman, Gary Spillman, Kevin Wallace, Steven Wingfield, Lisa Miller; ten great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pam Wingfield; sister-in-law, Ruth Bryant of Toledo, OH.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will e 1:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
