BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Roger Joe Sweatt, 81, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away at 10:20 p.m. July 5, 2013, at Magnolia Village. Roger was born in Warren County on May 25, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mae Easley Sweatt; one son, Todd L. Sweatt; one sister, Marguerite Roberts; and two brothers-in-law, James Thompson and O. V. Roberts.
Roger was a deacon and member of Alvaton Church of Christ and retired installer and repairman from Bell South Telephone and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the Korean War. He loved working in his yard and loved bird hunting and helping other people. His favorite phrase was “THERE ARE BETTER DAYS AHEAD.” Roger was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a great friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Georgia Raymer Sweatt; two sons, Barry Joe Sweatt (Carla) of Bowling Green and David Kent (Elizabeth) of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Frances Thompson of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, George Franklin Sweatt (Lois) of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Lindsey Sewell (Alex) and B.J. Sweatt, all of Bowling Green, and Jackson and Caroline Sweatt both of Franklin, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Nox Sewell of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Alvaton Church of Christ with visitation from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Bowling Green Gardens.
