BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Cecil Whitaker, 88, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away July 7, 2013, at The Medical Center.
Cecil was a World War II Army Veteran, having served with the 87th Infantry in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart.
Cecil was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. post 1298 and was a 62-year member of the Bowling Green Masonic Lodge No. 73, the Oddfellows and Gideon’s International. He was a member of White Stone Quarry Baptist Church where he also served as deacon. Cecil was a former member of Glen Lily Baptist Church. He was in the electrical industry for 65 years and owned and operated Whitaker Electric for 19 years prior to his retirement at age 73. He immensely enjoyed friends, family and especially his grandchildren. In addition, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a great story teller and loved to share his life experiences.
He was a son of the late Virgil and Ruby Whitaker. He was preceded by siblings Hoye, Elvis Jr., Lena and Sue. In addition, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Geneva Meeks Whitaker and a son, Tommy Lee Whitaker.
Survivors include his wife Jane; sons Todd Whitaker (Pam), Randy Hulsey (Andrea) and Russell Hulsey (Wendi); and daughter Buffy Nathan (Andy), all of Bowling Green; six grandchildren, Wesley Whitaker, Lydia Nathan, Aubrey, Thomas, Chris and Kevin Hulsey; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel, with Masonic Rites to be conferred at 7 p.m. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
