BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Frederick Eugene (Gene) Manning, 83, of Bowling Green, Ky went to be with his heavenly father after a lengthy illness.
Gene was a generous man to all who knew him and a hard worker who always had a project going. He enjoyed antiques, old tractors, raising cattle, and gardening. He graduated from College High and also served in the National Guard. He was a deacon and founding member of Halls Chapel Baptist Church, he worked for 20 years at Warren Rural Electric and founded Riverwood Mobile Home Park, and owned and operated a Greenhouse and nursery for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Anna Manning; his wife Bonnie Wandell Simmons Manning; and two brothers: Ralph and Jerry Manning.
Gene is survived by his wife: Jean Mann Manning; nine children: Carolyn Myers (Bunky), Brenda Higdon (Danny), Debbie Basham (Jeff), Karen McDaniel (Steve) all of Bowling Green, Sandra Mays (Aubrey) of Villa Ridge, Missouri, Gary, Steve, Freddie (Sandra), and Roger Manning all of Bowling Green, 8 step children; Fonda Cheesman (Rusty), Judy Jent (Wayne), Ann Phelps (Clyde), Harold Mann (Deborah), Gary Mann (Sandy), Doug Mann (Debbie) and Jimmy Mann. Gene also had several grandchildren, step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel with burial in the Barren River Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
