BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Anita Wayne Maroney, 71, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Versailles, Ky native was born June 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Claude and Dorothy Drury Thompson. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Wesley Thompson. Mrs. Maroney was a Special Services Instructor for Community Action of Southern Ky. Inc., where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a 48 year season ticket holder for Western Ky University Men's Basketball, a member of the WKU Student Wives Club, a member of the Land Mark Association and she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, John Daniel Maroney. Jr. of Bowling Green; two sons, Jim Maroney of Bowling Green and John Daniel Maroney, III and his wife, Rhonda, of Alvaton; two daughters, Cathy Maroney of Russellville and Anna Maroney-Jones and her husband, P.J. of Bowling Green; one brother, Billy Ray Thompson of Frankfort; one sister, Mary Ann King of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Logan and Austin Maroney both of Alvaton and Max Jones of Bowling Green; fifteen nieces, ten nephews, several great-nieces and great- nephews and special friends, Shelia LeGrand and Florence Massey both of Bowling Green.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with entombment in St Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rosary at 7:30 pm on Friday, at the Church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
