WKU Faculty Member Honored for Crime Novel

wku gray black borderBOWLING GREEN, Ky. (11/13/13) - David Bell, associate professor of English at WKU, has received an international honor for his crime novel Cemetery Girl.

Dr. Bell received the prestigious Le Prix Polar International de Cognac, given to the best crime novel published by a non-French author. Recent winners include Peter May for The Lewis Man, Jeffrey Archer for Prisoner of Birth and Karin Slaughter for Indelible.

“I’m tremendously honored to win the Prix Polar International,” the Cincinnati native said. “It’s a big deal just to be nominated with these great writers, but to win such a prestigious award from such a great organization means more than I can say. I’m thrilled.”

Le Prix Polar International de Cognac is a juried prize with a distinguished panel evaluating all of the nominees.

Cemetery Girl was first published in English in 2011. So far, the book has been translated for publication in France, Italy, Taiwan, China and the UK. Dr. Bell published Never Come Back in 2013, The Hiding Place in 2012, The Girl In The Woods in 2009 and The Condemned in 2008.

Dr. Bell is one of five WKU faculty members who will participate in the Kentucky Book Fair in Frankfort on Saturday (Nov. 16).
