HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - Joseph K. Slaton, 95, of Providence, KY formerly of Madisonville, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
He was born December 28, 1916 in Hopkins Co., KY to the late James E. Slaton and Amelia Denton Slaton. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Melton Slaton, three sisters, two brothers and one step son, Roy Pugh.
Mr. Slaton was a coal miner and a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a 30 year deacon at Liberty Baptist Church in Madisonville. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Providence and he was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Reba Dorris Slaton of Providence; step daughter, Betty Crowley of Providence and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. James Dunbar, Bro. Johnnie Davies and Bro. Monroe Slaton officiating. Burial will follow in Browder Church Cemetery in Madisonville.
Visitation will be Sunday after 12:30 P.M. until the service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Slaton, James Slaton, Jason Slaton, Jim Scott, Richard Pugh and Norris Slaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Dills, Jason Dills, Jared Drennan, John Scott Slaton, Robert Scott, Alan Scott, Douglas Brown, Graham Brown, Alex Brown, Ronald Riley, Kenneth Riley, Richard Riley, Mike Scott and Tim Scott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Gideons or a charity of your choice.
