prayer center 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (3/18/13) - You never know what one may find in the nooks and crannies of all the historical buildings in downtown Madisonville.

Located at 35 N. Main St. adjacent to the Ferrell's parking lot is the Main Street Prayer Center (MSPC), a Christian faith based prayer center led by directors Rush and Barbie Hunt, along with a prayer team of approximately 70 members, including a children's prayer team, consisting of children ages three years to 13-years-old. Hopkins County residents may be familiar with the Hunt's without having knowledge of their accomplishments in the religious sector. Rush Hunt is an attorney in Madisonville whose office is on E. Center St. Barbie has an art gallery downtown on S. Main St.

MSPC is a 501c3 non-profit mission center of Christian ministry. It's part of the International Association of Healing Rooms (IAHR), and there are centers just like it all over the U.S. and abroad. Headquartered in Spokane, Washington, IAHR was founded in 1999 by Rev. Cal Pierce.

The Hunt's, along with members of 15 different local churches, opened the prayer center in Madisonville in 2009, but just moved into the building on N. Main St. in 2011. They also co-direct a prayer center recently opened in Hopkinsville and have recently been appointed as IAHR Ky. State Directors.

MSPC is not a church itself, though the team consists of members of different churches in the area. It is just what it's named, a prayer center, a place to visit for the prayer team members to pray for healing of the ill. "There are many kinds of sickness," said Barbie Hunt in an interview with SurfKY News this week, when she explained the purpose of the ministry. "There is spiritual sickness, emotional, physical, psychological. We pray for healing of anything that ails a person." Barbie expressed that it is not imperative that a person being prayed for be of religious faith themselves, nor does the team advertise or recruit members to join in any way. "We believe that anyone who visits here will be led here by a guiding spirit."

The building consists of a front foyer where there is a quiet sitting area and tables and shelves full of literature on the IAHR ministry, and four prayer rooms, where a person or family of people may visit privately and serenely, along with at least three prayer members to pray with them or for them.

According to the informative literature on MSPC, the prayer team members do not dispute or contradict medicinal or otherwise science based healing, nor attempt to interfere with its purpose. They do not claim to "Have any special powers, but they have a heart of love and strong faith. We are a group of trained, sensitive and compassionate believers ." There are free training weekends hosted for those interested in becoming prayer team members or for those who are interested in learning about healing prayer. The training calendar information can be found on their website att www.mainstreetprayer.org or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If a person is interested in receiving prayer or becoming a team member, they may visit the center during their regular hours of operation, on Tuesdays from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. and on Thursdays from 2 p.m.-4p.m. and from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. There is no appointment or fee necessary.

To get more information about IAHR, log in directly to the healing rooms web-site here. You may also contact MSPC at (270) 821-6030.
