Central City Youth Advances to Hoop Shoot National Finals

elks2 300CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (4/3/13) – Think back to what you’d accomplished when you were 10. For Central City native Chloe Lynn, being one of the nation’s 72 best free throw shooters among 8- to 13-year-olds tops this list of achievements. And she has the Elks Hoop Shoot to thank for this success.

Last fall, Chloe joined 2.5 million kids ages 8 to 13 in competing in the 2013 Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest. She advanced through the local, district and state levels of competition, sinking the most of 25 free throws in each round. On March 9, with a score of 21 out of 25 at the Central Region’s Hoop Shoot contest in Paris, Tenn., Chloe secured her spot as one of the 72 national Hoop Shoot finalists.

The Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals tip off on April 20, 2013, in Springfield, Mass—the birthplace of basketball. At the contest, the 72 national finalists will compete to sink the most of 25 free throws and claim the title of national champion. One boy and one girl in each of the three age-groups will earn this prestigious title. These winners have their names permanently inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

“The Elks have been supportive throughout the Hoop Shoot,” says Chloe. “Their jokes helped me relax during competitions.”

Funded by the Elks National Foundation, the Elks Hoop Shoot offers youth the opportunity to compete, connect and succeed. On April 20, follow Chloe’s progress from home by using the live Elks Hoop Shoot shot tracker. Visit www.elks.org/hoopshoot to access the shot tracker, send an e-greeting to Chloe, read the latest on the road to Springfield, or learn more about the Elks Hoop Shoot. The Hoop Shoot is just one of the many opportunities the Elks offers for youth.
