Anticipated Cooler Temperatures Bring Warmer Drink Options to Local Coffee Shops

OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/10/13) -- With September comes the idea of autumn: leaves changing colors and eventually falling, campfires blazing, cable knit sweater wearing, and purchasing seasonal flavored foods and drinks.

Owensboro has plenty of cafés and coffee choices, but just some of them have the seasonal drinks you’re hoping for this fall. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and The Crème are all offering their version of rich autumn drinks and foods.
 
Even before Starbucks launched its Pumpkin Spice Latte this year, social media was on fire with anticipation of the fall favorite.
 
“The Pumpkin Spice Latte is the first hint of fall,” Virginia McDonald, Manager of the Starbucks on Frederica, said. “People are starting to look forward to cooler temperatures and the holiday season.”
 
Dunkin’ Donuts is also getting in on the Pumpkin flavor action with iced and hot drinks, muffins, and donuts. Products were sold out as soon as they were put on the shelves last week, according to Manager of the Frederica location, Peggy Pritchard.
 
“Because it’s only for a limited time, people want to get their fix,” Pritchard said.
 
Local café The Crème doesn’t feel the need to compete with the chain market with its own seasonal flavors, because it’s “set apart” being the only coffee shop downtown, according to Manager Kelly Creed. Creed said her shop is looking forward to sales spiking toward the end of the month.
 
“People love the Pumpkin Spice when it starts to cool off; it tastes like fall,” Creed said.
