obo art 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (11/20/13) -The City of Owensboro's 22nd annual Christmas card will celebrate the recent honor of being named an All-America City for 2013. Drawings and paintings by children from local elementary and middle schools, grades third through sixth were invited to illustrate a theme of "Christmas in an All-American City" for a competition coordinated by the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art.

Three winning entries, selected from several hundred, are illustrated in the holiday card. Awarded first place was Cameron Maysey, Newton Parrish Elementary School; 2nd place winner was Brianna Wheatley, Newton Parrish Elementary School; and 3rd place went to Derek Hall, Owensboro Middle School.

The first place winner received a $100 award from the City and the second and third place winners each received a $50 award. Additionally, all three received a family membership in the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art Foundation. The membership entitles the winners and their families to invitations to special museum events and discounts on classes, workshops and gift shop purchases.

A selection of submitted entries will be exhibited in the art museum's Young at Art Gallery, December 1 to December 31, as a feature of the 37th annual Holiday Forest exhibition. The cards produced as a part of this project are available in the art museum's gift shop or at the reception desk at City Hall. Packets of ten cards are $15.

Museum hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the museum during the annual Holiday Forest Festival of Trees is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Access is provided through the 9th Street entrance for physically challenged individuals.
