“Ron McCraw has owned the gallery for over 20 years,” said Eric Nelson, art consultant of Mid-City Art Gallery. “This is the third store he has opened here in Madisonville about two and a half months ago. So we are new to Madisonville but not new to the business.”
Owner Ron McCraw also owns another store in Evansville, Ind., and another in the Hanson Factory Outlet Mall. When McCraw ran out of space in Hanson, that’s when he decided it was time to expand and move to a bigger location.
“What Ron did was move all his custom framing items here to this location,” said Nelson. “We are the only custom framing shop in the quad county area. So we have a lot frames and options to choose from along with custom framing and express framing.”
All framing is done in house; however, the actual building of the frames is not.
“We have a pretty quick turnaround as far as when we order frames,” said Mary Nelson, art consultant of Mid-City Art Gallery. “We can usually turn around between a week to 10 days.”
Mid-City Art Gallery also offers shadow boxes, which are very useful for displaying favorite items or to build other craft creations. The store also offers a wide selection of Thomas Kinkade paintings, cups, calendars, bibles and prints.
“Our owner can get just about anything Thomas Kinkade,” said Eric. “He knows a lot of dealers across the nation and connections around the world.”
McCraw also has plans of moving custom grandfather clocks at the new location. The clocks can be purchased at any of the locations.
“The clocks are not only custom built, but can be personalized and turned into an heirloom,” said Eric. “Ron is also always looking for local artist’s artwork. We also do a lot of framing for Ducks Unlimited too.”
If anyone has purchased a Thomas Kinkade painting from any of McCraw’s gallery stores and would like to trade the painting for another Kinkade painting, McCraw will do a trade so long as the painting that is being traded is in good condition, Eric said.
“Our prices are very competitive,” said Eric. “If you were to go to (Owensboro), it will be 30 to 40 percent higher than what we would charge. Ron wants to keep it that way and locally owned.”
Mid-City is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, closed Sundays.
