Custom Cooler Inc. to Establish Manufacturing Operation in Elkton

beshear b 300ELKTON, Ky. (4/1/14) — Governor Steve Beshear today announced Custom Cooler Inc. plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Todd County.

Custom Cooler, which manufactures custom walk-in coolers, freezers and freezer doors, will create 75 jobs and invest nearly $5.8 million into the project.

“What a welcome investment to southern Kentucky,” said Gov. Beshear. “I’m confident Custom Cooler will find our strong workforce and strategic location beneficial to their long-term success. I thank Custom Cooler for coming to the Commonwealth and for providing more Kentuckians with quality, high-paying jobs.”

This will be Custom Cooler’s second manufacturing facility, and the 117,000-square-foot operation will serve customers throughout the eastern and central United States and internationally. The company chose Todd County because of its central location.

“Everyone at Custom Cooler Inc. is excited about the decision to locate in Elkton,” said Ray Tolcher, vice president and general manager of Custom Cooler. “We look forward to building a strong business and long-lasting relationships in Todd County as well as throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

Established in California in 2006, Custom Cooler serves more than 300 domestic and international customers in the food industry. Kentucky beat out three other states for the investment.

To encourage the investment and job growth in Todd County, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $1.5 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.

“When new jobs are created in our district, that’s some of the best news we can hear,” said Sen. Whitney Westerfield, of Hopkinsville. “It means that our community is attractive and that our workforce is solid. I look forward to welcoming Custom Cooler to Todd County.”

“I am proud to welcome Custom Cooler to Elkton and look forward to the day when it is fully operational,” said Rep. Martha Jane King, of Lewisburg. “This manufacturing facility will create 75 new jobs, and will be a great asset to the community and the lives of the families who will benefit. I applaud the teamwork of the local and state officials and business leaders who have made this project possible.”

“The City of Elkton is very excited for the opportunity to welcome Custom Cooler Inc.,” said Elkton Mayor Nancy Camp. “Our appreciation goes out to those who worked so hard to bring them to our area. Local manufacturers were significant in landing this project by highlighting the fact that Elkton is well-suited for this particular industry. Custom Cooler will be a great enhancement to our community.”

“On behalf of our citizens, I would like to personally welcome Custom Cooler to Todd County,” said Todd County Judge-Executive Daryl Greenfield. “I would also like to thank our many partners that worked together to encourage the company to locate in our county. It is an honor to work with Custom Cooler as they bring a significant investment and quality jobs into our community.”
