KENTUCKY (2/3/12) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, released the following statement on today’s jobs report:
“While today’s jobs numbers are promising, more must be done,” said Whitfield. “President Obama speaks of wanting to create jobs but his actions do not support his words. The President and his Administration have the opportunity to create 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs by moving forward with the Keystone XL Pipeline. I’m not sure why the President refuses to do the right thing for American workers.
Additionally, the Obama Administration has the opportunity to save 1,200 jobs at the Paducah uranium enrichment plant in my home state of Kentucky, but the Secretary of Energy refuses to take action.
It’s time for the President to stand up for American workers and take action to create and retain jobs. House Republicans have passed 30 bipartisan jobs bills over the past year and President Obama must urge Sen. Reid to allow the Senate to pass these bills that will create jobs and boost our economy.”
