Melvin Donald (Don) McGill, 69, of Owensboro, KY

 

OWENSBORO, KY - Melvin Donald (Don) McGill, 69, of Owensboro, KY passed away  Monday, February 6, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

He was born in Owensboro on November 20, 1942 to the late Auther McGill and Mary Romig. Don was the retired owner of Roto-Rooter Plumbing in Gainesville, FL, served his country as a member of both the United States Army and United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed landscaping, working in the yard and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mayme E. McGill and a stepson, Brian Scott Lovelace.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Hines McGill; a son, Stephan McGill of Mt. Carmel, IL; a stepson, Scott Dewayne Beckner of Patoka, IN; three stepdaughters, Cynthia Prather (Ricky Young) of Owensboro, Leslie Lovelace of Philpot, KY and Betsy Payne (Brad) of Owensboro; a sister, Brenda Hanson of Coos Bay, OR; and a brother, James Chastain of Coos Bay, OR; nine grandchildren, Austin McGill, Kelly Hulsey (Kenneth), Tyler Prather, Cassidy Prather, Megan Jennings, Lindy Gerteisen, Mollie Gerteisen, McKenzie Payne, and Brayden Payne; one great-grandchild, Kaden Hulsey; several nieces and nephews; the best fishing buddy in the world, Darrell Hines, and his faithful dogs, Buddy and Abbey.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho, KY. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
