MURRAY COUNTY, KY (2/20/12) – After a dominating performance in his first start of the season, Murray State right hander Cameron Finch was named the Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Finch (Collierville, Tenn.) threw his first career complete game in leading the Breds to a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso. In just his second start, Finch allowed one run on seven hits and struck out three over nine innings. After allowing a run on three hits in the third, Finch allowed just four hits over the final six innings and did not allow a runner to get past second base.
The start was just in the second in the career of the sophomore. As a freshman, Finch was used primarily as a closer, with 17 of his 18 appearances coming out of the bullpen. Prior to Saturday, Finch had not thrown more than five innings, with that coming in his only other start against SIU Edwardsville last season.
