Facebook Prepares to Change Format

WalMart6576 300KENTUCKY (2/12/12) – Many times in the past, the world's most-popular social networking site, Facebook, has updated its' format without the consent of the users. According to the official Facebook blog, one of these times is rapidly approaching, with the “Facebook Timeline” format going live on February the 18th.

This update will change users’ profile pages to where they show what that particular user has done, on a timeline like graph. This includes what they have liked, who they have friended, what updates to their status they have made, and more. Each event will be listed in sections determined by the month in which the user preformed the action. It will also allow the user to add new actions between previous actions, in case they want to tell where they were, for example, before a certain picture was taken, and after a status was made. According to Facebook engineer Paul McDonald, Timeline will give you “an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments”

There are also a large number of apps planned to come with the Timeline format, allowing users to show what movies they had recently watched on Netflix, what they had seen on Hulu, and more. It is not currently known what limitations one could put on these apps, nor if all previous apps will be compatible with the new format.

The public opinion has been divided with the opinion over the new format. Many Facebook users are excited about it, believing that it streamlines the process of posts, making it faster to read a person’s history. Others, however, believe that the entire format looks “clumsy” and is a “privacy issue” with older posts becoming more readily available, and want the entire format to just stay the same.
