KY Cold Case—William Lewis Arwood

kycoldcase01WESTERN KY (12/28/11)— The Kentucky State Police (KSP) investigate criminal activity across the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky, and, in many instances, the information provided by individual citizens allows law enforcement officials to make important breakthroughs in difficult cases.

With this in mind, members of the KSP Post 16 in Henderson, KY are requesting help from the public in resolving a murder investigation that began nearly 60 years ago on August 9th, 1953.

As members of the KSP explain, the victim of the murder, William Lewis Arwood, 42, was found slain near Southside Liquors in Henderson, KY following an altercation at a local bar.

Firsthand reports and evidence dating back to 1953 show that a black male entered the “white section” of a racially segregated bar in the Henderson area on the night of Arwood’s murder. According to eyewitnesses, Arwood was involved in a verbal confrontation with the black male.

Though the black male left the bar following the argument, it was soon after that he returned and called Mr. Arwood outside. It was here that Mr. Arwood shot two times in the chest.

Though the KSP have yet to positively identify a suspect linked to the murder, it is officially noted that an unnamed subject contacted the Sacramento, CA Police Department with further details of the murder on January 19th, 1980. However, the subject who made the call denied knowledge of the murder of the phone call in question.

Detectives are requesting help from the community or anyone who might have information related to this investigation. Anyone with information can contact the case officers, Sgt. Jackie Carver or Lt. Sean McKinney, with the Kentucky State Police Post 16 Henderson, Kentucky at (270)-826-3312 or via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
