basic football1 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/5/13) – Daviess County suffered a hard lost last week to the Owensboro Catholic Aces but the Panthers are looking to turn their season around. This week Daviess County will face cross town rival Apollo Eagles, and both teams are looking for their first win.

There was new fire at practice this week for DC and Head Coach Marcus Kimbrell, who is pushing for perfection. He was frustrated about the opportunities the Panthers were not able to take advantage of in the 37 – 13 loss to the Aces.

“We stopped ourselves too many times with delay of games, blocks in the back, and turnovers,” Kimbrell said. “We have to become smarter football players.”

Kimbrell pointed out the opportunities the Panthers had to jump up on Catholic 14 – 0 after the Aces had two big turnovers early in the game.

Apollo will present a different challenge for Daviess County this week, Apollo’s offensive and defensive lines are their strongest points. Coach Kimbrell’s biggest key to the game this week he said is, “us.” In addition to playing “smarter,” his other two keys are finishing drives and playing consistent. He said he is proud of the effort the Panthers are giving, but he knows they have to use their heads.

For the game this week Apollo will make the short jaunt to Daviess County High School to take on the Panthers. The game starts at 7 p.m.
