Pedley’s Predictions: Playoffs Week 1

football helmet 300OWENSBORO, Ky., (11/8/13) – Last week was the final week of the regular season. Owensboro Catholic and Daviess ended the season on a high note with two huge victories. Owensboro lost a close game against Henderson.

This week starts the playoffs and two out of the four local teams will home. Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic will host their first round games, so head out and supports your local teams.

Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers (1-9) @ Owensboro Red Devils (7-3)

Last week Owensboro was on the wrong side of close game against Henderson. Now, they are fired up and ready for Breckinridge County. Last year the Red Devils had an easy time with the Tigers winning 56 – 0.

Owensboro’s Head Coach Joe Prince wants his team to understand, this is a new year and different team. That being said, Owensboro will be ready to go for their first round game. I cannot imagine this game even being close. Expect a running clock for the Devils.

Prediction: Owensboro will rest their starters in the second half, the Devils will win 49 – 0.

Crittenden County Rockets (3-6) @ Owensboro Catholic Aces (8-2)

Owensboro Catholic had yet another solid victory last week, this time against Barren County 46 - 18. Crittenden County is coming off four humiliating losses, the Rockets lost by the combined scores of 187 – 10. It’s not going to be any easier this week against the streaking Aces.

Head Coach John Edge for the Aces told SurfKY News, “Crittenden plays man to man defense, our offense will either feast or famine.” The Aces are going to feast and senior quarterback Houston Hartz will throw for at least 3 touchdowns. Expect another large margin victory or the Aces.

Prediction: The game will be over quick and Aces will prevail 46 – 10.

Daviess County Panthers (6-4) @ Central Hardin Bruins (10-1)

Daviess County continued to show improvement over the entire season. After the McCracken loss three weeks ago, the Panthers offense has taken off. DC has scored 100 points in their last two victories.

Central Hardin has had a great season and their 10 – 1 record shows it. But, how does the Bruins’ lack of competition hurt them? Daviess County has had the toughest schedule in Owensboro. Has that schedule prepared DC for the playoffs?

Call me crazy but I do not think Daviess County will stumble in the first round. The Panthers have played great football this season and I believe in DC. I believe that the Panthers will win.

Prediction: Daviess County will travel to Central Hardin and will steal this game late. The Panthers will win 20 – 17.
