OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/12/13) - The Daviess County Panthers beat their cross town rival, Apollo Eagles 20-6 on Homecoming night. They struggled against Owensboro and had a chance to beat Catholic in their two previous weeks. Head Coach Marcus Kimbrell knew how talented this team was. He said he just needed the team to play smart for the whole game.
Coach Kimbrell said he was proud of how the Panthers have improved this week. He pointed out late in the game how many turnovers on downs Daviess County had, some of which were in the red zone. So the defense stepped up and made plays whenever the team needed them most.
Several key players were noted for their role in helping the Panthers get their first win of the season. One was Panthers senior quarterback Luke Bailey, who made two passing touchdowns – one to Darren Jones and the other to Tevin Washington. Samuel Spiceson led the Panthers in rushing with 70 yards and also contributed with one touchdown.
One the defensive side of the ball, Zack Edlen and Jacob Nanny led the Panthers with 10 tackles each. Alex Lecroy had one interception for Daviess County.
