The Lady Trojans rallied for five runs in their final two at-bats to post a come-from-behind victory over the Lady Tigers last Tuesday in Princeton. Webster took an early 1-0 lead as Christian Papineau opened the game with a single and scored on a groundout by Kaylyn Winders.

The Lady Tigers used a double, triple, single and one WCHS fielding error to plate four runs in the bottom of the frame. Macye Davis doubled and scored on an RBI-single from Georgia Keeney in the second to trim the lead to 4-2. But the CCHS girls answered that run with a single tally in the bottom of the second on two hits and another WCHS error.

Webster senior Kolbi Edens came to the aid of Kayleigh Wood on the pitching mound and shutout the Lady Tigers the rest of the way. Edens struck out three and walked three.

With the Caldwell bats silenced, the Lady Trojans went to work at the plate in the final two innings, cutting the lead to 5-4 in the sixth. Papineau reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on a single from Jerrica Jones. She also swiped second and came around to score on a Winder’s RBI-single. Webster’s game-winning rally came in the top of the seventh as Davis reached on a CCHS error to open the frame. Keeney walked and both runners sprinted home on a double from Papineau, giving the Lady Trojans a 6-5 lead. Jones followed with another two-bagger to bring in Papineau for WC’s final run.

Papineau, Jones and Keeney all had two hits in Webster’s 10-hit explosion. Winders, Mady Yates, Davis and Edens also had safeties. WC also had six stolen bases with Davis swiping two to lead the way.

The Lady Trojans struggled defensively in Thursday’s loss to the Lady Red Devils in Dixon, and that was the difference in the game. Webster committed eight errors as starting pitcher Kayleigh Wood surrendered just four hits and only one earned run.

Webster out-hit Owensboro 7-4 but couldn’t overcome the fielding miscues. Three of Owensboro’s hits came in the first as the visitors took a quick 2-0 lead. They Lady Red Devils picked up runs in both the second and third innings, taking advantage of four WCHS fielding errors.

Trailing 4-0, the Lady Trojans finally got a bit of offense going in the bottom of the fourth when Mady Yates was hit by a pitch and she moved to third on a single from Edens. Yates then scored on a sacrifice from Wood. OHS got its final run in the sixth without a hit as the Lady Trojans committed three costly errors. A one-out double from Mady Yates, followed by an RBI-single from Edens in the bottom of the sixth set the final score. Yates was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored while Keeney, Davis, Wood, Edens and Papineau all had one hit.
