WEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (8/28/13) - Lady Trojans vs. Lady Storm (Hopkins County Central) - Tuesday, August 20th, 2013
The Lady Trojans traveled to Hopkins County Central Tuesday night to take on the Lady Storm. After getting beat by Ohio County in a scrimmage, I was a little nervous about Tuesday night. I know my Lady Trojans are a talented team, but the first game of regular season always gets me anxious. It sets the mood for the rest of the season. That anxiousness was quickly abolished when the Lady Trojans started their attack from the very beginning. We had several shots on goal, but they just couldn’t find their mark. I believe this was due to first game jitters. The Ladies composed themselves and there was no looking back. We use a saying - ‘The star of the team IS the Team’. Every single player contributed and Every single player did an awesome job. Our season gradually gets tougher and we take on Dawson Springs Thursday August 22nd. We still have some things to work on, but much of that can only come from game experience. The Ladies are starting to ‘click’, they trust each other. We are very proud of their effort and a big THANK YOU to all of the fans that came out to support their Lady Trojans, it means a great deal to these ladies to see and hear the fans rooting them on.
Varsity Goals: Lexie Cole – 2, Brooke Clark – 3, Flor Salazar – 4, Lindsey Grant – 2
JV was cut to only playing one half due to the late start of the Varsity match. They fought hard and it looked like it was going to end in a tie. With about 36 seconds to go in the game, Brooke Clark took a shot from 35 yards out and it found the back of the net giving the young Lady Trojans the win.
Webster vs. Dawson Springs - Thursday, August 22nd, 2013
Coming into this match after a powerful win against Central Tuesday night can be both a positive and a negative. Sometimes a team can get over confident, but the Lady Trojans, although very confident, remained focused on the task at hand and that was to beat Dawson Springs. The heat and humidity had us a little fatigued going in, just not quite used to it since this year has not produced many days like Thursday. The team fought through it and did an outstanding job. They are really working well together this season. They all trust each other and that is very important for a team to be successful. Our defensive backs, Gloria Stringfield, Brianna Wolf, led by Taylor Main and Destiny Starks are working extremely well together. Brittanie Smith is doing an outstanding job at Goalie. When the rest of the team has confidence in these three positions, Center Backs and Goalie, they can concentrate on the attack. Our center midfield positions, Chelsey McVay and Flor Salazar are controlling the midfield and this is a must in order to be successful, the outside midfielders, Lindsey Grant and Kaylee Pratt are doing an awesome job on supporting the attack, the defensive phase and supporting the center midfield. Our forwards, Lexie Cole and Brooke Clark, along with our midfielders are very creative this year and doing a great job of making shot opportunities. I have a very talented group on the bench this year as well and all of the players are vital to being successful.

Lady Trojans at Christian County - Saturday, August 24th, 2013
Saturday was a beautiful day to play soccer! However, it was during the day and that seems to always be an issue. I have not figured it out yet, but no matter the age group, the focus just isn’t there during a day game. The Ladies were a little sluggish from the time they got off the bus. I know part of this was due to some nagging injuries, bruises and aching muscles. This game remained scoreless until the last 6 minutes of the game, when the midfield made a pass to open space, The Christian County Goalie and Lady Trojan’s Flor Salazar were both sprinting for the loose ball. Flor got to it about a half second before their goalie did and was able to use some nice footwork to get around the goalie and a defender to put the ball in the back of the net. That put us up 1-0. However, due to a handball call on the Lady Trojans inside the 18yrd box, Christian County was given an opportunity to tie the game, which they did. I am very pleased with the effort put forth by the Lady Trojans. They started out a little sluggish, but in the end, the dug deep and found the heart to finish strong.
Varsity Goals: Flor Salazar – 1
Our JV did a very fine job Saturday. Although they were defeated on the scoreboard, you would never be able to tell by watching them play. We have several new girls this year that are bringing a lot of heart and effort. They are some of the hardest working young ladies I know. They are starting to understand my style of play and there are several Varsity players leading them on the field. The coaching staff and I could not be prouder of our young Lady Trojans.
Monday night (tonight) we take on Crittenden County at Crittenden.
Tuesday night (tomorrow) we take on Union County at Union.
