Muhlenberg Students Show Artistic Side at Duncan Center

mchs art 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (4/10/13) – Step inside the Duncan Center in April and you will discover just how much artistic talent there is at Muhlenberg County High School.

The MCHS Annual Art Show is on display at the center through April 30th.

Pottery, paintings, etchings, sculptures, photographs and much more is on display. The imaginations of art students from West and East Campus all combine to create an exciting world of colors, images, and talent at work.

Leigh E. Stewart, one of the Visual Art Instructors at MCHS West Campus, told Surfky.com that students were not really given any specific instructions, but allowed to use their imaginations. "This is a culminating body of work starting at the beginning of the year. Some students may have been in a sculpture class, a beginning art class, some from a media class." Stewart explained.

Kimberly Faye McChellan, also a Visual Art Instructor at MCHS West says she is "very proud of our students. They have done a good job."

Stewart added that, "Creativity is a big thing. That's what impresses me about our students. We have tried to give every senior an opportunity to be in this exhibit so they can have a sort of Duncan Center Senior show."

Rachel Brace, a student represented in the show, says what she likes about art class "is experiencing the different types of art elements."

Chris Keys, also of West campus, says he "likes being able to express yourself, to be creative, and to show your emotions in your artwork."

Student Chelsea Stockdale, says she enjoys being "creative in everything you do. Whatever happens in art happens."

Ms. Stewart noted that one of the art students in the exhibit, Senior Miranda Lear, is already putting her love of art to work as a volunteer at Martin Hall. According to Stewart, Ms. Lear plans to continue expanding on her art talents at Western Kentucky University in the Fall.

Experience the exhibit in person at the Duncan Center Monday through Friday 11am to 4pm. The center is located at 122 South Cherry Street. Phone 338-2605 for details.

A reception for the students will be held Thursday, April 18th from 4 to 6pm.
