Henderson High School Alumnus, Filmmaker to Speak to HCHS

(9/11/13) – Filmmaker and Henderson County High School alumnus John Gibson will visit Henderson County High School next week to speak to students in the auditorium about the filmmaking process, his career, and his new film Revelation Trail. John Gibson will then give a second presentation immediately following the first to another group of high school students and a third presentation to the after school CHEERS program students.

John Gibson’s background as a filmmaker integrates elements of writing, directing, camera work, editing, effects, and marketing skills. He also is an Electronic Media and Broadcasting lecturer at Northern Kentucky University, and was a former radio host/board operator at WKMS (an NPR member station). Gibson earned an undergraduate degree in History and a Masters degree in Communication from Murray State University. As a 1998 graduate of Henderson County High School, he worked alongside other Henderson County High School alumni who have worked on the Revelation Trail film.

During the evening of Sept. 19, the premiere of Gibson’s western zombie film will be showcased at the Henderson Community College Fine Arts Center. Revelation Trail is armed with talented and passionate actors, makeup artists, and film crew from the northern Kentucky, western Kentucky and southern Illinois areas. A pure indie passion project, Revelation Trail has picked up a small cult of fans numbering in the thousands. Roughly one-third of the production budget came from fans who contributed via the crowd-funding site, Kickstarter. Generous locals from Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois loaned weapons, locations, food, and horses with everyone from re-enactors to school teachers pitching in to help. The wardrobe team crafted more than 200 period-accurate costume pieces from thrift store steals and online bargains, with most costumes averaging $4. A team of volunteers even built a period- accurate military fort in just 17 days, mostly from discarded barn wood. Revelation Trail has screened to six sold out performances previously, as well as numerous packed houses.

Gibson will visit the school on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 1:45 p.m. For more information about his visit, contact Henderson County High School Arts and Humanities Coordinator Brian J.
