LEXINGTON, Ky. (11/4/13) – University of Kentucky sophomore punter Landon Foster has been named Honorable Mention Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his impressive game last weekend against Alabama State, it was announced Monday.
Foster had a strong game for Kentucky in the win over Alabama State, punting five times for 245 yards and a 49.0 yards-per-punt average. The native of Franklin, Tenn., drilled a 58-yard punt in the game, which tied a career high.
On the season, Foster has punted 42 times with a 42.9 average, including five punts of 50-plus yards. The sophomore had one of his best games of the season against No. 1 Alabama where he had eight punts for a 44.8 yards-per-punt average, including a career-tying 58-yard punt. Foster has three 58-yard punts in his career.
In just his second season with Kentucky, Foster already qualifies for UK's career punting average record list, ranking second all-time with a 42.8 yards-per-punt average.
This is the first weekly honor of the season for Foster, who was named Third-Team Preseason All-Southeastern Conference by CollegeSportsMadness.com and Fourth-Team Preseason All-SEC by Phil Steele’s College Football this preseason. Last week, Foster was named one of 85 candidates for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, which annually honors the nation’s best punter.
The Wildcats will return to action Saturday when it continues conference play at Noon ET against No. 9/9 Missouri inside Commonwealth Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
Kentucky-Vanderbilt Game Time/TV Selection Set for Nov. 16: The University of Kentucky football game with Vanderbilt on Saturday, Nov. 16 has been set for a 12:21 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC TV. It will be the first time this season that Kentucky has played on SEC TV.
