HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (2/7/12)—Earlier this morning, February 7th, the Kentucky State Police Post 2 responded to the report of a student bringing a gun to a Hopkins County school.
According to initial reports by parents, a male 4th grader supposedly brought a firearm to West Hopkins School in Hopkins County and displayed it to fellow students.
However, as KSP Post 2 Trooper Stu Recke confirms, an investigation into the matter revealed that the report was completely false.
In fact, Trooper Recke explains that the young man in question had merely fashioned a “gun” out of two small bolts and a nut for an action figure he had with him. He then showed the handmade accessory to his friends.
Trooper Receke says that the official report was filed after a concerned family member overheard students at the school talking about the supposed “gun.” The family member contacted police soon after.
Now that the report has been clarified, classes will continue as normal.
