WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (2/1/12) – Webster County School Board Chairman James Nance has thrown his hat into the ring for the office of state representative in the twelfth district.
“I feel like there are issues that need to be brought to the table,” Nance said of his decision to file for election in Frankfort on Monday. “Voters need to be heard.”
Nance said his biggest concern is the concept of so-called “unfunded mandates,” and cited some examples he’s seen in his public service on the Webster County Board of Education.
“It’s not just about schools,” Nance added.
Nance told The J-E he plans to start campaigning immediately.
“My goal is to reach as many as I can over the next few months,” Nance said.
Nance also said that although he believes “Governor Beshear has done a good job” with the budget issues Kentucky is facing, he wants to help tackle that challenge.
Nance will run against incumbent State Rep. Jim Gooch, who filed last month.
