Police beat2 300WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (2/1/12) – The following is your weekly update on law enforcement activity in and around the Webster County area.
 
Mon., Jan. 30, 9:00 a.m.
•Derrick Guinn, 29, Providence, was cited to court on Jan. 24 on charges of operating an ATV on a roadway and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked operator’s license.
•Kenzel Copeland, 20, Providence, was cited to court on Jan. 26 on charges of operating an ATV on a roadway.
•Charles Woodward, 30, was arrested on Jan. 27 on charges of third degree burglary.
•Greg Baker, 52, Providence, was arrested on Jan. 27 on charges of receiving stolen property less than $10,000.
•Alissia Hogan, 33, Providence, was cited to court on Jan. 28 on charges of operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and failure to produce insurance card.
•David Alexander, 21, Providence, was arrested on Jan. 28 on charges of second degree assault — domestic violence and third degree assault— police officer or probation officer.
•Lonnie Gibson, 24, Providence, was cited to court on Jan. 29 on charges of no or expired Kentucky registration.
 
All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
 
Sheriff’s Report
Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield reported the following accidents:
 
Sat., Jan. 21, 5:45 p.m.
An accident occurred on U.S. Hwy. 41-A, three miles south of Dixon. According to Webster County Deputy Jay Workins, Jimmy Frailey, 31, Providence, was driving south on U.S. 41-A when a deer apparently ran onto the highway ahead of him. Frailey then struck the animal. No injuries were reported. Frailey’s 2004 Dodge Stratus sustained minor to moderate damage.
 
Tues., Jan. 24, 7:55 a.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 120, four miles east of Providence. According to Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield, Andronia Taylor, 36, Sturgis, was driving east on Ky. 120 when she apparently sideswiped Haylee Smith, 23, Slaughters, as they met at the top of a hill. No injuries were reported. Taylor’s 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer sustained very minor damage, as did Smith’s 2008 General Motors Yukon Denali.
 
Tues., Jan. 24, 5:07 p.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 56 in Sebree. According to Webster County Deputy Cory Patmore, Marilyn Willett, 48, Corydon, was driving west on Ky. 56 when she apparently “merged right” and struck a parked vehicle belonging to Beverly Taylor, 51, Sebree. Willett was taken by Webster County EMS to Methodist Hospital in Henderson. No other injuries were reported. Willett’s 2001 Chevrolet Malibu sustained severe damage. Taylor’s 1991 Chevrolet two-door conventional cab sustained moderate to severe damage.
 
Wed., Jan. 25, 1:09 p.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 132, four miles west of Dixon. According to Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield, Daniel Zimmerman, 42, Robards, was driving east on Ky. 132 when he apparently lost control of his 1999 Pontiac Grand Am due to a distraction. Authorities said Zimmerman told them when he looked up, his vehicle was pulling to the right and struck a concrete bridge. No injuries were reported. Zimmerman’s car sustained severe damage. Dixon Fire and Rescue and Webster County EMS assisted at the scene.
 
Jailer’s Report
- Jailer Terry Elder reported trusties worked a total of 4,318 hours during the week of Jan. 22 to Jan. 28.

- Jail maintenance - 3,462 hours; Webster County Road Department - 304 hours; Webster County Water Department - 120 hours; City of Sebree - 120 hours; City of Providence - 160 hours; road sides - 80 hours; dog warden - 40 hours; City of Dixon - 32 hours.

- Total inmates - 259; county - 26; state - 233.
 
Webster County Circuit Court
 
The following court case was presented in Webster County Circuit Court recently:
•Michael McCallister, 34, pleaded guilty on Oct. 28 to charges of receiving stolen property less than $10,000 by complicity, a class D felony; and receiving stolen property more than $10,000, by complicity, a class C felony. The charges stemmed from two separate court cases. On Jan. 25, Webster County Circuit Court Judge Rene´ Williams sentenced McCallister to a total of five years in prison and ordered him to pay court costs and restitution.
 
State Police
Kentucky State Police Post Two in Madisonville reported the following activity:
 
Mon., Jan. 30, 1:50 p.m.
Preliminary statistics indicate that eight people died in eight separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. Seven of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and five of the victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Carroll, Clay, Hardin, Jefferson, Knott, McCracken, and Pike counties. Crashes in Jefferson and McCracken counties involved the suspected use of alcohol. One pedestrian involved fatal crash occurred in Bell County. Through Jan. 29, 2012, preliminary statistics indicate that 46 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2012. This is 6 more fatalities than reported for the same time period in 2011. There have been 41 motor vehicle fatalities and 23 of those victims were not wearing seat belts. Five of those crashes involved a commercial motor vehicle. One crash involved a motorcycle and that victim was wearing a helmet. Four crashes involved a pedestrian. Seven deaths have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol. Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible. These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas. Crash data for this report is generated from the Kentucky Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
 
WC EMA/EMS
The National Weather Service will conduct Weather Spotter training on Tuesday February 21st 2012 at 6:30pm at the Webster County Cooperative Extension Office at 1118 US Highway 41A South in Dixon. Everyone is invited. The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. Volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. NWS encourages anyone with an interest in public service and access to communication, such HAM radio, to join the “SKYWARN” program. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.
