Police Beat: Feb. 15, 2012

police beat bluel 300WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (2/15/12) – The following is your weekly update on law-enforcement activity in and around the Webster County area.
 
Providence Police
Providence Police Chief Brent McDowell reported the following arrests:
 
Mon., Feb. 13, 9:00 a.m.
•Christopher McKay, 25, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 7 on a warrant alleging second degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
•Brian Armstrong, 33, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 7 on a warrant alleging first degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
•Amanda Robinson, 30, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 7 on a warrant alleging second degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
•Brian Hall, 31, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 11 on a warrant alleging receiving stolen property less than $10,000.
•Brian Armstrong, 33, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 11 on a warrant alleging second degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
•Thomas Hill, 36, Providence, was arrested on Feb. 12 on a Webster County bench warrant.
 
All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
 
Sheriff’s Report
Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield reported the following accidents:
 
Wed., Feb. 8, 4:12 p.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 370, one mile east of Onton. According to Webster County Deputy Donald Jones, Austin Bellis, 18, Slaughters, was driving east on Ky. 370 when a “gold colored car pulled out of a driveway” onto the road ahead of him. Authorities said Bellis told them he swerved to avoid a collision with the other vehicle and ran off the road. Bellis’ 1997 Ford Ranger continued through a fence and struck a tree before coming to final rest. Authorities said Bellis refused treatment at the scene of the accident. He was later taken by private vehicle to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. Bellis’ truck sustained severe damage. Sebree Rescue and Webster County Deputy Cory Patmore assisted at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t identified.
 
Sat., Feb. 11, 6:30 p.m.
An accident occurred on U.S. Hwy. 41 in Sebree. According to Webster County Deputy Steve Madden, an unidentified vehicle apparently left the scene of an accident after striking a parked 2010 Ford Edge Sport belonging to Roger Vance, Sebree (no age listed) in a public parking lot. No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained moderate damage.  
State Police
Kentucky State Police Post Two in Madisonville issued the following statistics report:
 
Mon., Feb. 13, 12:45 p.m.
Preliminary statistics indicate that three people died in three separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 12.
 
Two of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and one victim was not wearing a seat belt. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Daviess and Laurel counties.
 
One ATV involved crash occurred in Carter County and the victim was not wearing a helmet.
 
Through Feb. 12, preliminary statistics indicate that 68 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2012. This is two more fatalities than reported for the same time period in 2011. There have been 61 motor vehicle fatalities and 33 of those victims were not wearing seat belts. Six of those crashes involved a commercial motor vehicle. Two crashes involved a motorcycle and one victim was not wearing a helmet. One crash involved an ATV and the victim was not wearing a helmet. Four crashes involved a pedestrian. Eleven deaths have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
 
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
 
These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas. Crash data for this report is generated from the Kentucky Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
 
Webster County Circuit Court
The following court cases were presented in Webster County Circuit Court recently:
•Billy Corbitt, 66, pleaded guilty on Feb. 2 to charges of manufacturing methamphetamine by complicity, a class B felony; operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a class B misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor; first degree fleeing or evading police, a class D felony; and unlawful possession of a methamphetamine precursor by complicity, a class D felony.

On Feb. 3, Webster County Circuit Court Judge Rene´ Williams sentenced Corbitt to a total of 12 years in prison and ordered him to pay court costs.
 
•Lisa Hess, 44, pleaded guilty on Feb. 8 to charges of first degree possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.
 
On Feb. 8, Judge Williams placed Hess on probation and ordered her to pay court costs.
 
Jailer’s Report
Jailer Terry Elder reported trusties worked a total of 4,054 hours during the week of Feb. 5 to Feb. 11.
 
Jail maintenance - 3,230 hours; Webster County Road Department - 288 hours; Webster County Water Department - 80 hours; City of Sebree - 120 hours; City of Providence - 160 hours; road sides - 48 hours; dog warden - 56 hours; City of Dixon - 32 hours; City of Clay - 16 hours.
 
Jail population as of Monday, Feb. 13:  Total inmates - 272; county - 32; state - 240.
