Sheriff’s Report
Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield reported the following accidents:

Thurs., Jan. 12, 11:40 a.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 283, five miles east of Dixon. According to Webster County Deputy Donald Jones, Crystal Davis, 30, Slaughters, was driving south on Ky. 283 when a deer apparently entered the road ahead of her. Authorities said Davis told them she swerved to avoid a collision with the animal and lost control of her 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. Davis then ran off the road, overcorrected, and began to enter a skid before continuing off the road backward. The van came to final rest on its passenger side after hitting a tree. Davis was taken by Webster County EMS to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville for treatment. Her vehicle sustained severe damage.

Tues., Jan. 17, 7:55 a.m.
An accident occurred on U.S. Hwy. 41-A in Dixon. According to Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield, Elise Wagoner, 47, Poole, was driving her 2008 Nissan Altima south on U.S. 41-A. Authorities said Wagoner told them an automobile was stopped ahead of her waiting to turn left and that when she began to brake, her car skidded on the wet pavement. Wagoner steered the car to the right to attempt to avoid hitting the other vehicle, and ran off the south shoulder of the road. The car went down a “deep ditch” and struck the earth embankment before coming to final rest in the ditch facing southwest. A seven-year-old passenger in Wagoner’s vehicle was taken to Webster County Medical Center for treatment of a minor neck injury. No other injuries were reported. Wagoner’s car sustained minor to moderate damage in the accident.

Tues., Jan. 17, 1:00 p.m.
An accident occurred on U.S. Hwy. 41-A, five miles north of Dixon. According to Webster County Deputy Donald Jones, Tina McFarland, 44, Henderson, was driving north on U.S. 41-A when a deer apparently entered the road ahead of her path. Authorities said McFarland applied her brakes but was unable to avoid a collision with the animal. No injuries were reported. McFarland’s 2008 Chevrolet Malibu sustained moderate damage.

Tues., Jan. 17, 10:05 p.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 120, 4.5 miles east of Providence. According to Webster County Deputy Scott Starkey, Cody Oldham, 19, Madisonville, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram east on Ky. 120 when he apparently overcorrected after his truck began to pull to one side. Authorities in an accident report said Oldham then “jammed the brakes,” causing the truck to enter a spin and run off the road into a nearby ditch, where it began to roll. Oldham struck a utility pole and some trees before his truck came to final rest in a pond. Oldham was taken by Webster County EMS to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville for treatment. The truck sustained very severe damage.

Fri., Jan. 20, 7:00 p.m.
An accident occurred on Ky. Hwy. 56, one mile east of Poole. According to Webster County Deputy Jay Workins, William Frederick, 27, Sebree, was driving east on Ky. 56 when a deer apparently ran onto the highway in front of him. Authorities said Frederick swerved to avoid a collision, overcorrected, and lost control of his truck, a 2005 Dodge Ram. Frederick then struck a culvert and became airborne. The truck “flipped into a ditch facing west on the driver side” of the truck. As a result of the accident, a metal tool box in the bed of Frederick’s truck came loose and landed on the highway, where Michael Meredith, 61, Sebree, struck it with his 2000 Ford Ranger. According to the accident report, Meredith told authorities he didn’t see the tool box beforehand. Authorities said they detected an odor of alcohol on Frederick’s breath, and alleged Frederick tested positive for the presence of alcohol but that he wasn’t above the legal limit. No injuries were reported. Frederick’s truck sustained very severe damage. Meredith’s truck sustained minor damage.
