gov money 300FRANKFORT, KY. (August 11, 2017) – The Department for Local Government announced it has approved $400,000 in Local Economic Development Fund/Single County Coal Severance funds to Webster County Fiscal Court.

The award will be used for the renovation and conversion of the county’s former emergency medical service facility into a new Senior Citizens Center.

“I am pleased that these much needed funds will be allocated for the renovation and repurposing of an old EMS building into a new Senior Citizens Center for Webster County,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “This project highlights how existing resources can be reengineered to provide many additional services to benefit the community.”

Local politicians commented on the funds awarded.

“The construction of the new Senior Citizen’s Center in Webster County is a good reinvestment of coal severance funds and will provide new health and wellness resources to the community and ensure that our citizens are taken care of,” said Sen. Dorsey Ridley.

“I am thankful to DLG and Webster County officials for this wise stewardship and investment of coal severance dollars for a new Senior Citizens Center,” said Rep. Jim Gooch. “The surrounding community will reap the benefit of this new facility for years to come.”

The LGDEF/Single County Coal Severance awards are made under the parameters of HB303. HB303 appropriated coal severance funds for projects that have the concurrence of the respective County Judge/Executive, State Representatives, and State Senators.
