Madisonville North Hopkins MaroonsLEXINGTON, Ky. (3/8/19) — Madisonville-North Hopkins notched a win in the opening round of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys' Sweet 16 State Tournament at Rupp Arena on Thursday, defeating 12th Region champion Lincoln County 57-49.

The victory pushes Madisonville-North Hopkins into the Boys' Sweet 16 Quarterfinals.

With the win, its 23rd straight and 30th overall, Madisonville-North Hopkins improved to 30-5.

Lincoln County ended its season 23-13 with the loss.

Kenny White scored 21 points, pulled down eight rebounds and registered five blocks to lead Madisonville-North Hopkins to the win. Accompanying White in double figures in scoring and recording a double-double, Ksuan Casey delivered 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Maroons. Another Madisonville-North Hopkins player, Cade Cunningham, narrowly missed reaching double figures in scoring, netting nine points.

The Maroons took a lead ot of each quarter. After edging Lincoln County 10-9 in the opening period, Madisonville-North Hopkins pulled ahead to lead 27-21 at halftime.

The Maroons remained out in front after the intermission period. Madisonville-North Hopkins led 39-31 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

The Maroons shot 54 percent from the field in the winning effort.

In the other opening round games played in the Boys' Sweet 16 on Thursday it was Scott County 64, Covington Catholic 61; Butler 65, Perry County Central 62 (OT) and Warren Central 73, Mayfield 55.

Madisonville-North Hopkins will face Warren Central in the Boys' Sweet 16 Quarterfinals at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
