Madisonville MinersOWENSBORO, Ky. (7/10/19) — Madisonville fell short in a bid to claim a win on the road as Owensboro prevailed 9-8 in the opening game of an Ohio Valley League doubleheader at Independence Bank Field at Chautauqua Park on Tuesday.

The Miners nearly battled back to pull even after facing an eight-run deficit.

Ian Ellis earned the pitching win for the RiverDawgs. Ellis pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five and walking one. Caleb Dubois, Bo Robison and Drake Hamil each put in work in relief on the mound for the RiverDawgs. Hamil recorded the last out to notch the save.

Griffin Lape suffered the pitching loss for the Miners. Lape allowed six hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four.

Madisonville lost despite outhitting Owensboro 12-8.

Bailey Falkenstein and Kyle Hogwood each produced multiple hits for the RiverDawgs. Falkenstein went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Owensboro in the hits column.

Shayne Lyons, Ricky Sisto, Jacob Council and Alex Rodriguez each recorded multiple hits for the Miners. Lyons led Madisonville with three hits in four at-bats. Both Sisto and Council homered for the Miners.
