Baptist Health Paducah 300PADUCAH, Ky. (5/15/18) —The Ray & Kay Eckstein Regional Cancer Care Center at Baptist Health Paducah was recently awarded Paducah’s first LEED Silver Building certification.
 
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.
 
The cancer center achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in the following areas: Sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
 
Examples include the facility’s high efficiency indoor plumbing fixtures, which will save more than 49,480 gallons of water per year, and the materials selected for construction. More than 28 percent of the construction materials contain recycled content and 20 percent are from regional sources.
 
More than 92,200 commercial and institutional projects are currently participating in LEED, comprising more than 2.2 million square feet of construction space in all 50 states and more than 167 countries and territories.
