baptist health butterfly caMADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/8/18) — Camp Butterfly will be held at the Welcome Center at Mahr Park Saturday, Sept. 15. Camp Butterfly is a free grief camp for any child in the community ages 6-12 that have experienced the death of a loved one, hospital spokeswoman Kristy Quinn announced.

During camp sessions, the children will learn to cope with their feelings of grief in a positive way and will have fun with peers that have experienced a similar loss, Quinn said. There are activities planned and led by social workers and others that will teach the children how to effectively deal with their loss.

“We play games, spend time with our companion dogs and have a nice lunch all while teaching these children that they are going to be OK,” said Kellie Gipson, volunteer coordinator for Baptist Health Hospice. “The favorite event of the day is always our memorial service that ends with the releasing of butterflies. Parents are encouraged to attend the service, which is open to the community."

Registration and check-in begins 9:30 a.m. Camp will last until 2:30 pm., and the memorial service is scheduled to begin at 3. The Welcome Center at Mahr Park is located at 642 Nebo Road in Madisonville.

For more information or to register for Camp Butterfly, call Gipson at (270) 326-4660 by Sept. 7.
