“That’s a lot of water behind me, here at Land Between the Lakes, but did you know, many, many, I mean many years ago, this entire area, basically all of Kentucky was covered in seawater. That’s right, sharks and other sea creatures would swim around, right here.”

NAT JAY WRIGHT IS SPENDING A SUMMER EVENING AT THE BALL FIELD. HIS SON HAYDEN, WHO IS PITCHING, WAS JUST THREE, WHEN HIS DAD, HIT A HOME RUN, WHILE MINING COAL, SEVEN HUNDRED FEET, UNDERGROUND IN WESTERN KENTUCKY.

“Hanging out of the roof where I could just reach up there and grab it.”

WHAT HE FOUND WAS THE JAWBONE OF RARE SHARK.

“There was a bunch of razor teeth, that just in line, going all the way down the jaw.”

IT’S KNOWN AS THE “SCISSOR-TOOTH SHARK, WHICH MAY HAVE LOOKED LIKE THIS.

“The shark jaw itself, is not a typically one, apparently it looks like a pair of scissors that opened up.”

“You never know, right there, buried in your own backyard could be a shark fossil, in western Kentucky
