Hooked on Science - Self Carving Pumpkin

October 29th - November 4th

How did you carve your pumpkin this year? With an explosion? That’s how our “Science Guy” Jason Lindsey does it, he shows us the “Self-Carving Pumpkin.”

“The pumpkins at your house most likely don’t explode or for that matter, self-carve, this one, in the Hooked on Science Lab will do just that. I have a special ingredient I’m going to pour inside of my pumpkin. When you add water to that special ingredient, a chemical reaction happens, we create an explosive gas, inside of the pumpkin, we’ll ignite that gas, the eyes, the nose, and the mouth, that I’ve already pre-carved, in my jack-o-lantern, should pop out with a fireball. Let’s hope so. Got my ingredient on the inside, let me put my goggles on, just for my safety, I’m going to pour some water inside. The chemical reaction is happening. You can hear it fizzing and bubbling on the inside. We want that gas to build up on the inside, then I’m going to ignite it, you think there is enough gas on the inside? Let’s try it. Three, two, one…EXPOLOSION! WOW! For Hooked on Science, I’m Jason Lindsey.

Jason Lindsey aka ‘Mr. Science,’ with Hooked on Science, recently made his 10th appearance on America’s most-watched morning show, the NBC Today show. Click HERE to watch!
