Sportsplex JEB Expansion GroundbreakingHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (12/13/17) — Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks and James E. Bruce Convention Center Board Chairman Darrell Gustafson announced today that a groundbreaking for Hopkinsville’s indoor sportsplex and Convention Center expansion will be held 2 p.m. Monday.

The event will be held adjacent to the Convention Center, 303 Conference Drive. Members of the public and sporting enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.

Funded as part of the community collaboration known as Hopkinsville-Christian County WINS, the $5.56 million sportsplex development will feature an approximately 54,000 square-foot multipurpose facility to host both recreational and tournament events with such amenities as:

* Volleyball and basketball courts,
* Indoor turf fields,
* Archery space,
* Ample spectator areas,
* Concessions area,
* Restrooms,
* Meeting room, and
* Flexibility to host additional “non-sport” events.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble stated, “Christian County Government is proud of the outstanding relationship with have with the City of Hopkinsville. This project is a big win for our community, and we are glad to be a part of it.”

Expansion of the James E. Bruce Convention Center is another joint city-county WINS initiative. The $3.28 million investment will yield an additional 14,800 square feet of space at the facility, officials said.

“We are extremely excited about these developments and the significant tourism-related economic impact they are designed to bring soon, Hendricks said. "Sportsplex construction and the convention center expansion, led by the team at A&K Construction, are scheduled to be completed in late September of 2018.”

Convention Center Board Chairman and Christian Fiscal Court Magistrate Gustafson said the Convention Center Board is thrilled to partner with the city on the important work.

"We look forward to seeing the development and expansion projects make the already successful Convention Center an even more desirable tourism destination,” he said.
