Christian Co Tornado

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (2/25/18) — The National Weather Service reported an EF-2 tornado touched down in Hopkinsville Saturday evening.

Mike Pape of Hopkinsville stated on his Facebook page, what started as weekend flooding “ended with a tornado that damaged businesses and homes in Hopkinsville. If there is an upside to this story, as far as we know, no one was seriously injured and the tornado moved a storm front through fast enough that we didn’t received the additional 2-3 inches of rain that had been forecast.”

News outlet WTVF/WKYT reported about 170 tenants were displaced after the building received damage from a tornado. Three people were said to have received non-life-threatening injuries at Eagle Crossing Apartments on Calvin Drive, and six others were treated at the scene.

Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks said in a press release that temporary shelter was being provided Saturday as the local Red Cross coordinates assistance. About 1,000 customers lost power.

The mayor said a team would be working in affected areas to help with cleanup efforts, and a state of emergency would be declared.
