DesmondUPDATE: CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (6/19/18) — A Hopkinsville family is mourning.

The father said Sunday morning that 29-year-old Desmond Lamar Leavell went missing sometime early Friday morning, fearing the unthinkable had happened.

On Father's Day, James Leavall said it was unusual not to hear from his son, because he spoke to him every single day and had not heard from him since Thursday.

Family and friends said they were desperately searching the 1100 block of the Durrant Avenue area, where Desmond's truck was discovered by Hopkinsville police. They were told blood was inside the vehicle.

They waited near the scene across town overnight Sunday after authorities were called to a report of a body found off Deason Road near Hopkinsville.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported investigators confirmed the identity of the victim Monday evening following an autopsy Monday in Madisonville.

Detectives and the medical examiner revealed Desmond Leavell died of a gunshot wound.

A passerby notified police Sunday evening after seeing what they believed was a body lying off the side of Deason Road, according to previous CCSO reports.

Anyone with information regarding the murder of Leavell is asked to call CCSO Detective Lt. Scott Noisworth at (270) 890-1300 or leave information on their anonymous tip page by clicking here.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (6/17/18) — A Hopkinsville parent is spending this Father’s Day desperately searching for his adult son that went missing early Friday.

The father of 29-year-old Desmond Leavell, James Leavell, along with relatives and friends have been searching a cemetery, lake and wooded area around the1100 block of Durrett Avenue in Hopkinsville, where they say the truck he was driving was discovered by police, and there was blood inside.

The family says they last saw Desmond on Thursday, and he went missing sometime early Friday morning. No one has heard from him since then.

“It’s unusual for me not hear from him,” the father said today, while out searching for his son. “I talk to him every day.”

James said Hopkinsville Police Department found the rental truck Desmond was driving in the area of Durrett Avenue. He feels that police could have cordoned off the vicinity and initiated a search. The truck was towed away, he said.

Family members said officers indicated blood was found in the pickup, and they fear Desmond may be hurt or that the unthinkable could have happened.

This story will be updated. This photo of Desmond Leavell was posted by friends of the famly on social media this weekend.
