DesmondUPDATE: CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (6/18/18) — A 29-year-old man reported missing by his family over the weekend was murdered, Christian County authorities reported.

The family of Desmond Lamar Leavell said Sunday they were desperately searching the 1100 block of the Durrant Avenue area, where Leavell’s truck was found by Hopkinsville police.

Family and friends feared the worst had happened, saying police told them blood was found inside the rental truck he was driving. They had not heard from Leavell since Thursday, saying he went missing early Friday morning.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported investigators confirmed the identity of the victim this evening following an autopsy today in Madisonville.

Detectives and the medical examiner revealed Leavell died of a gunshot wound.

A passerby notified police Sunday evening after seeing what they believed was a body lying off the side of Deason Road, according to previous CCSO reports.

UPDATE: (6/18/18) — An autopsy is scheduled today on the body discovered off Deason Lane in Christian County Sunday evening.

The name of the individual and cause of death has not yet been released, pending autopsy results.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (6/17/18) — Authorities in Christian County were seen at the scene of an apparent body reported found off Deason Lane near Greenville Road this evening.

Authorities have not released information pertaining to the man's identity. The Christian County Coroner’s Office also responded to that area in addition to Kentucky State Police.

Authorities were contacted by a passerby at approximately 7:12 p.m. The individual saw what they thought was a body lying on the side of the road in the woodline off Deason Lane, approximately a quarter-mile mile from Antioch Church Road, Christian County Sheriff's Office reported.

When deputies arrived shortly after, they discovered the body and reported contacting the Christian County Coroner.

Deputy Coroner Zach Lamb responded and pronounced the victim deceased.

CCSO reported It is unclear at this time how long the victim has been at this location.

CCSO is in charge of the investigation.
