hop police dept2 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (8/6/18) — Hopkinsville Police Department received a five-year accreditation award recently.

The Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police Accreditation awarded to HPD Aug. 1 examined the agency policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

HPD Lt. Kyle Spurlin, public information and special operations officer, said the accreditation process included an onsite assessment of the department ensuring its policies and procedures were compliant with the 171 professional standards required to reach the goal.

Accreditation establishes that the agency was carefully measured against a set of standards and has met or exceeded professionally accepted practices in law enforcement, Spurlin said. Departments are required to be reaccredited every four years in order to maintain the status.
