Crime Stoppers BBQ copyHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (10/10/18) — Crime Stoppers of Hopkinsville/Christian County is hosting a fundraiser 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville.

Patrons can stop in and have a plate of barbecue that will include a half-chicken, baked beans, slaw, bread and a drink for $8, which includes tax, or pick up orders to-go. Desserts will be available for $1/each.

Hopkinsville Police Department and program coordinator Lt. Kyle Spurlin said the Crime Stoppers fundraiser helps support the program, which has paid out more than $274,000 in rewards, with a goal to improve the quality of life for residents in Christian County, and capture wanted suspects.

Tickets are on sale at HPD, 101 N. Main St. and Johnson’s Family Chiropractic, 1600 S. Virginia St.

“The nonprofit gives people a way to report crimes without having to appear in court or give personal information,” Spurlin said. “Everything Crime Stoppers do is based on donations,” which is governed by a private board of directors.

Sometimes a reward may be $100 for a small crime and $1,000 for a serious crime, and that can deplete funds quickly, Spurlin said.

“We’re asking people to go ahead and buy tickets right now in order to know how many chickens to cook,” the officer said.

Spurlin, board member Dave Freeze and others will be busy grilling Saturday.

“This will be one of the best meals people have ever eaten,” Spurlin said, adding he would possibly even deliver a very large order.
