The agency revealed the deputy rammed the 1995 Sierra 4x2 head-on to keep the man from going the wrong direction on the parkway.

Authorities reported the vehicle was traveling 85 mph south near the Pennyrile Parkway 5-mile marker at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to a CCSO arrest report. After attempting a traffic stop, the driver signaled and began to pull off the right shoulder, but instead veered back onto the parkway, reaching speeds of 96 mph.

At the end of the parkway, the driver made a hard right turn on the right exit ramp, and went off the shoulder through a ditch and onto the west ramp, CCSO Deputy R. Burgess reported. The driver attempted to make a U-turn in the median and began to travel east through the median.

Burgess reported he rammed the vehicle head-on to prevent the driver from heading into oncoming traffic.

Montez Tyshon Johnson was charged Wednesday with speeding 26 mph or greater over limit, first-degree fleeing police, reckless driving, failure to a use turn signal, first-degree criminal mischief, no seat belt usage, no driver’s license, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and failure to maintain required insurance. He was also served with a Tennessee warrant.
