scam alert red 300CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (3/14/19) — Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported the agency has received several calls over the past two days from residents saying phone scammers have been calling, posing as deputies.

Although the phone scam is nothing new, deputies indicate the callers say they are from a law enforcement agency, claiming residents have a warrant, ticket, missed a court date or jury duty and ask for money over the phone.

“We want everyone to be aware that we do not operate that way, CCSO wrote in a press release. “A sheriff’s deputy will never call you on the phone and demand money for any infraction. We are not allowed to do that. Those issues have to be handled either by serving the warrant.”

As a general rule, violators pay fines through the local clerk’s office.

Authorities recommend residents hang up during those type of phone calls.
