Graddy MCHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (6/17/19) — A Saturday night, high-speed motorcycle pursuit was interrupted after the driver was tossed over the handlebars due to a herd of deer crossing Gracey Herndon Road in Christian County.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported a deputy initiated a traffic stop on the motorcycle driver, identified as 19-year-old Michael A. Graddy of Hopkinsville, on Fort Campbell Boulevard near McDonald’s. He was clocked going 81 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Graddy accelerated after looking back at the deputy, taking a left turn on East 21st Street, and then left onto S. Virginia Street, according to a CCSO arrest citation. “Graddy almost struck CCSO Unit 622 head-on,” a deputy wrote. He continued accelerating in excess of 100 mph, and then turned onto Country Club Lane. He also had close brushes with several Hopkinsville Police Department units.

Deputies reported almost terminating the pursuit due to his weaving in and out of traffic, when deputies spotted Graddy on Cox Mill Road, where there was no traffic. After turning onto Gracey Hernodon Road, several deer entered Graddy’s path. In an attempt to avoid the herd, Graddy went off the right side of the road, traveled through a yard and crossed over a driveway. The rear of the motorcycle lifted up resulting in Graddy being thrown over the handlebars.

“Graddy rolled, and I made contact with him in a hayfield lying on his stomach,” Deputy Michael Oxford wrote on a report. “While on scene with Graddy, he stated he ran from me because he did not have insurance on his motorcycle.”

Graddy was taken to Jesse Stuart Medical Center ER for treatment of minor injuries, and then taken to Christian County Jail, where he was listed as being held today on $5,000 cash bond.

He faces a list of traffic violation charges. Graddy also was charged with first-degree fleeing police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, no registration plates and failure to maintain required insurance.
